Sample Model Release & Photography Release

I created sample model releases and photography releases from downloads I adapted from the American Society of Media Photographers; please feel free to copy these and adapt them for your uses.  Please note that I’m not an attorney nor have these been reviewed by an attorney…

Product Photography Release

“Use a Property Release to record the owner’s permission to take pictures of buildings, cars, art works, pets — in fact, just about anything except people.”

Permission for Photography

“Professional models may be reluctant to sign a general release when working for free, e.g., for testing or creating portfolio images. In such cases, a narrow release that limits usage to self-promotion may be appropriate. Typically, in exchange for letting you use the images for your own self-promotion, the model and agent are allowed to use the images for their self-promotion.”

Model Release – Simplified

“Because of the length, complexity and occasionally intimidating legal language in the regular Adult’s Model Release, some photographers prefer to use a simplified version. They trade off some protection for a simpler document and one that people who are not professional models may be more willing to sign.”

Model Release

“This is the most detailed and formal of our standard releases, and it should be used whenever possible. It is particularly suitable for commercial shoots with professional models. Exception: If the model is under age 18, use the Model Release for a Minor Child, which is signed by the child’s parent or guardian.”

Model Release – Child

“This form, in addition to being detailed and formal, is designed for a parent or guardian to give permission on behalf of a child or teenager. If you can, get both parents to sign, which reduces the risk that one parent will try to revoke the consent given by the other.”
