When I was a freshman in high school there was a rumor predicting the end of the world.  I was so freaked out that my mom told me that I could stay home if I wanted, but I had an algebra exam and new that if the world didn’t end I’d take a hit to my GPA.

end of the world predictions recycle with each generation

Last year my stepson asked me if I thought the Mayan Calendar was really predicting the end of the world.  I told him that I thought the Mayans just got tired to making calendars and figured that by now, we could figure out ourselves.  I added that I thought the end people were predicting were endings in peoples lives.  Including the end of relationships.

The Real Housewives of Orange County

This weekend I finally said goodbye to a friend.  She changed and the changes sucked.  I kept hoping that my old friend would come back, but she was gone.  I was watching The Real Housewives of Orange County (I know, horrible show) and realized that my friend hadn’t changed, I had.  My boyfriend laughed at me and asked me “What did you expect?  That she’d change.”  Well, yes, I guess I did.

a reason, a season, a lifetime

An ex-boyfriend of mine told me this when he was breaking up with me; I was in his life for a reason, not a life time.  I wish I would have flipped him the bird an stalked off, but I was heartbroken and just slinked away.  I laugh at the memory, but appreciate the sentiment, because it’s so very true.

I’m happy that the season is over.  I think my boyfriend is too; he never liked her.

What was the last relationship that you ended?

I have watched the OC from day 1 and I have no idea why…I don’t like those type of shows, but there’s something about this one I can’t get enough of! The last relationship I ended was with a girlfriend that I would be friends forever with…she broke my heart when she showed her true colors! I’m grateful for the experience though ;)

I know what you mean, Beth – there’s something about the OC that I just can’t look away. The Beverly Hills ladies just seem nuts; well, they all do, but I think because the OC was the first, I just keep going back.

The loss of a friendship is so tough, because friends are supposed to be forever, at least that’s what I thought as a kid. Thanks for stopping by!

It sucks when people change – whether it’s us or them. I envy people who have a group of good friends that either never change or, if they do, the change is a good one.

Hi Larraine – I feel the same. I meet women who have had the same friends since grade school and I wonder how they do it. I used to be a Mean Girl and didn’t realize it until I wasn’t one anymore. When “jokes” went from being funny to being just plain mean, I started distancing myself from people. The great side is that it leaves room for better friends to come in!

I wasn’t a huge fan of change as a child. Now looking back, I was constantly changing!!!

Me too, Becky. I completely relate. Today, I love the security of things remaining the same, but life is always in flux and I love that too.
