A Photography Necessity: Foam Board

05/03/2011

Photography, Tips

Yesterday it rained like cats and dogs, which usually means that my camera gets a break and my sofa gets warm.  But I was in the mood for photography and the lighting in our place wasn’t great for what I wanted to capture.

The tulips I purchased at the festival were dropping their petals and I got a great idea.  A few weeks go I purchased foam board (one black and one white) to provide a clean, shooting surface and I love how my shots have turned out.  This was a $5 investment.  Who knew that foam board would become a photography necessity for me.

It’s amazing how such a small investment can help me create such cool photography.

What inexpensive purchase have you made for your photography?

I bought a foam board too, but have yet to use it! I’ve got some basic bedsheets that I use for my daughter’s pictures–one black and one white.

That is so cool that you use sheets, Rach. I bought backdrops online for $25-$50 and I use those, because someone told me sheets were too thin; when they found out how much I spent on my backdrops, they said I bought the “cheap” ones, but they work great. I didn’t want to spend $300 on a back drop for a hobby :)

So how are the sheets working for you?
