Here’s a great photography tip that’s a fab test to see if you know your DSLR camera (or point and shoot).
Let someone else use your camera. And if you really want to test yourself, make sure they’re shooting in manual mode and explain what they need to do to capture the shot. I gave my boyfriend my camera. He’s familiar with DSLRs (he taught me) and shoots with a Nikon D5000 on occasion. It was fun being able to tell him where to find the ISO button, and how to adjust the aperture, exposure compensation, and white balance. It really showed me that I know my camera (Sony Alpha 550 – best camera EVER).
I edited everything in Lightroom when we were finished…
This is the first shot. I’m sort of embarrassed by how messy the room is – we were having a movie day.
This is my favorite one. I think Johan did a great job capturing Sydney’s eyes.
The best part was letting Johan get comfortable and watching him framing each shot. This one isn’t as in focus, but that’s because the dogs were starting to get curious and this was the last shot before they started moving all over the place.
It can be frustrating explaining how to use a camera to someone, but it doesn’t have to be. Make it a game and have fun with it; we did and I ended up with some great captures of me and the dogs in our messy “formal” living room.
