A Bittersweet Farewell to Through the Lens of Kimberly Gauthier

02/29/2012

Business, Random

Update: Through the Lens will continue.  Thank you for the call to keep the blog going.  I will find the time to continue to share more about photography and me and my dogs and whatever else happens to pop in my head.

A Bittersweet Day for Through the Lens

“May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow. May the soft winds freshen your spirit. May the sunshine brighten your heart. May the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you, and may God enfold you in the mantle of His love.” 7/366

After some internal debates, get the advice of colleagues, and thinking of where I’m going with my online adventures, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s time to say goodbye to Through the Lens.

It’s a bittersweet day, because this is the first blog that I took seriously and the lessons I learned building Through the Lens are what lead me to the success I’ve had with Adventures in Blogging and Keep the Tail Wagging.

I Want to be a Blogging Mogul

But I want to be Blogging Mogul.  The Oprah of the Blogosphere.  And I realized that I bit off more than I can chew when I decided to write three blogs.  I thought I could do this successfully, but I can see that I’m starting to phone it in on my photography blog and focus too much on affiliate marketing and not enough on photography.

Less Blogging About Photography = More Time to Take Pictures

So I will be closing the doors to Through the Lens in March 2012 and focusing more on Adventures in Blogging and Keep the Tail Wagging.  Photography will always be my great love and this change will allow me to get back on track with my 2012 Project 52, to participate in Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sundays again, and I’ll have a sincere shot of building a booming business.

Thank You!

I want to say thank you to everyone who has liked my page and followed my blog.  The support you’ve given me has been amazing.  I’m seriously tearing up as I write this, because I’ve met so many great people online and I hope to continue to chat with you about our photography.  Please shoot me a Friendship Request on Facebook and (if you’re into it) follow me on Twitter.

If you’re interested in blogging, join me over on Adventures in Blogging.  If you’re a dog lover, join me over on Keep the Tail Wagging.  These two blogs are the foundation of my business and I’m so excited to see the growth and want to really give the entrepreneurial gig a shot in 2012 and I’d love your support.

Adventures in Blogging

I started Adventures in Blogging, because I was tired of being sold on eBooks and programs and not knowing what would actually work for me and what wouldn’t.  The Internet is a huge bubble with a ton of information and I want to speak with other bloggers like me who are trying to build a community on a budget.

Keep the Tail Wagging | Life’s Abundance Premium Pet Food

Keep the Tail Wagging is my dream blog.  The one that a dog trainer scared me away from in 2010 by telling me that I’d probably get bored with my puppies and have them euthanized.  For two years, I was afraid of the “dog lover” community, because I didn’t want to interact with people like her again.  Then I met friends at my local dog park and was reminded that dog lovers are amazing.

Around the same time I launched Keep the Tail Wagging, I connected with a representative of Life’s Abundance premium pet food and was so impressed by the company, people, products (our dogs and cats LOVE the food), that I became a representative too.  Finally, I real shot at becoming a successful business woman and I’m able to combine my love of blogging, photography, connecting with people, and dogs together.  It’s a dream come true.

So that’s what’s happening.  I hope we don’t lose touch.  Thanks for everything.  Because of my readers, I was able to take a path that literally led me to my dream gig and I couldn’t be happier.

It’s been amazing!

Thank you so much, Lovelyn – I’ll still doing photography and sharing images on Flickr and on Keep the Tail Wagging so be sure to catch me over there :)

Hmmmmm.. though i am so excited to see you taking more time to shoot, and believe me, i know how it is to focus on a million other things, and just not have the time. I can’t see this happening. You’re too good, you love it too much and this site is your baby! I’ve seen it grow for years now, and it would be a shame to let it go. There must be another way =0(

      I know, Julie
I’m going to start doing a lot more photography for Keep the Tail Wagging and sharing tips on that site. I love taking pictures of my fur kids and the weather is going to be gorgeous this summer so I can’t wait!

Kimberly, I am so inspired by everything you have and are building. Your enthusiasm is contagious as is your energy, and you share all you’ve learned so graciously, and for that I thank you. I’ll be following you on Adventures in Blogging. BTW, have you always been so brave?

Thank you so much, Claudia! You are so kind. And NO, I have no always been so brave. When I turned 40 last year, I said “why not” and started following dreams long buried. What I love about social media is that it opens up so many opportunities for us that we couldn’t see before. I want to be a blogging mogul – an affiliate said that he saw me becoming the Oprah of the internet and I laughed, because that’s exactly what I want. In fact, my inlaws gave me her coffee table book for Christmas. I love it!

Thanks so much for the comment and kind words.

Oh no! Just when I found you, you’re leaving? Are you going to keep the blog up or is it going away totally?

    • Kimberly Says:

      Hi Erica!
The site will continue. I got such a great response that I’ve decided to make it more into a personal blog and continue to offer photography tips. I’ve even connected with another blogger to help with content.

The show must go on!!! :) I really need to update that post.
