Dawn Marrs Made My Day!
I’m one of those people who isn’t satisfied with just having online “friends.” I like to connect with people in real life. That’s how I met my friend Erin Kohlenberg. That’s how I met Zero Dean (check out his adventure). And that’s how I met Kim Siebert. Today, I had an opportunity to connect with a Twitter follower/followee over the phone, Dawn Marrs.
I was so excited about the opportunity to chat with her and I was crazy nervous. It’s so wonderful to meet people who follow their bliss instead of following the the path that society has predestined for us all – school, work, marriage, kids, retirement, death. I never understood people who quit their jobs. Why would they give up that security. And then I found something I loved, photography, and the thought of doing it full time makes me so happy and excited and now I get it.
Dawn explained that it was hard, it was scary, but she was so much happier knowing that she was moving in the right direction. I compared it to my divorce. I was terrified, but I was so relieved and happy once I made the choice to move and and then did it. But with this, I’ve made a plan and I want to transition out of employee life into entrepreneur life, hence my 5 year plan.
Listening to her talk settled my nerves and I know for sure that I’m on the right track, although I had a feeling yesterday. I don’t feel so bad about not being as focused – so much is going on, so many people are coming into my life, so many new opportunities, so much to do.
If you need a quick kick in the butt, check out Dawn’s website. Her blog is varied, interesting, well written and thought out, and an inspiration. She mentioned that we should step out of our comfort zone and speak with people and she’s right. So I challenge everyone to reach out to a Twitter Follower/Followee, a Facebook Friend, or someone on any number of social websites and turn them into a real friend, a valuable contact.

Oh your blog will take off. I love it. I was telling someone about it the other day, can’t remember who, ohhh, someone I bet on Blog Frog. I was telling her how I love how blunt you are, I love that you swear, and I love that you surprise me with your opinions and you do all of this without being offensive. Such style. You’ll get there!!! And then I can sell my story of how I know you to the tabloids and get rich too!!!

What a beautiful sentiment! There’s so much meaningless churning that goes on in the blogosphere and it’s really lovely to see someone using it for what it really can be, a tool to bring people together in this disconnected digital age. And my admiration to you for following your dreams. Good luck!

Thank you so much, Nicola
You have made my day with your comment. I’m so lucky to have so many people who leave such wonderful comments of support and encouragement. And I count my blessings daily when it comes to social networking. I’ve met so many wonderful people online and actually calling them to put a voice with the words and face just cements the relationships.
Thank you. Your blog title is compelling so I’m looking forward to checking it out!!!
